Palworld has received a lot of major updates throughout its relatively short lifespan, but the biggest one of them all, the 1.0 update, is still on the way. According to the game’s developer, Pocketpair, Palworld‘s full 1.0 version will come out in 2026, and it will contain a truly “massive amount of content.” Before it’s released, though, Pocketpair plans to iron out some of the technical issues and quirks of Palworld in order to ensure that the update has as smooth a launch as possible. As a result, the studio doesn’t plan to add as much content to Palworld for the remainder of 2025 as it normally does.
Aside from the above-mentioned details, there is almost nothing known about the contents of Palworld‘s 1.0 update. While Pocketpair did share a roadmap for Palworld earlier this year, it’s not clear if some of the features mentioned in it will be included in the 1.0 update or an update prior to it. Pocketpair says that it intends to share more information about the upcoming patch in the coming weeks. Despite this, though, the company has already revealed one of the biggest new additions in the update, and it’s been hiding under players’ noses all this time.
The World Tree Will Be Introduced in Palworld's Upcoming 1.0 Update
In response to a fan’s comment on Twitter, Bucky, the Communications Director at Pocketpair, revealed that a feature-complete version of the World Tree will be added to Palworld in its 1.0 update. The World Tree, for those who don’t know, is one of Palworld‘s most mysterious landmarks. Right at the northernmost corner of the game’s map, players can spot this gigantic tree situated on a small island in the middle of nowhere. The island in question is currently inaccessible in the game. While players can attempt to access it by using a Pal to fly across the ocean, two giant wall barriers prevent them from even setting foot on the island.
“World Tree / Ending Scenario” was one of the features listed in the update roadmap that Pocketpair released for Palworld earlier this year.
The World Tree Will Be the Place Where the Ending of Palworld Takes Place
Ever since the game was originally launched, it’s been assumed that the World Tree will play a big role in Palworld‘s ending. Sure enough, this theory was confirmed by Bucky himself just a few months ago. According to Bucky, the World Tree will be the place where the end of Palworld‘s main story takes place. Palworld‘s ending has apparently been mapped out by the developers at Pocketpair for quite some time, which is why the World Tree has been present in the game since day one. The addition of the World Tree, however, will not mark the end of Palworld’s development as a whole, as the company still has plans to add more content to the game in the future.
To This Day, the Purpose that the World Tree Serves is Still a Mystery
Many players have attempted to determine the story role the World Tree has in the context of Palworld‘s universe. Since Palworld isn’t exactly a story-driven game, this would normally be difficult to do, but fans have found a handful of journal entries in the game that hint at the tree’s true role. One of these entries, Castaway’s Journal — Day 6, was written by an unnamed explorer prior to the events of the game, and it includes some of their personal theories about the World Tree. In this journal entry, the explorer claims that this tree may be the very same World Tree that is spoken about in mythologies and religions all over the world. They then suggest that the tree may be creating the fog that surrounds the game’s map, thus preventing outsiders from discovering the Pals residing within it.
Pocketpair WIll Probably Add a Lot of Content to the Island that the World Tree is Located On
Regardless of what role the World Tree will actually play in Palworld‘s narrative, a lot of content will probably be added to the island that it is located on. Pocketpair may add a Tower Boss to the game in this area or introduce some new characters who live on the island to flesh out the game’s story. Unless Pocketpair decides to share more info beforehand, though, Palworld fans are probably going to have to wait until 2026 to find out what secrets the World Tree truly holds.
