Borderlands 4‘s first major balancing patch is out now, and it brings a slew of changes to the Vault Hunters’ skills and passive abilities. Gearbox Software has promised plenty of ongoing support and future updates for the looter shooter, and big adjustments are now starting to roll out. With this latest patch, all four Borderlands 4 playable characters may feel a bit different going forward.

It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster for the fourth mainline installment in Gearbox’s iconic FPS franchise. After a tumultuous news cycle leading up to its release, Borderlands 4 sold over 2.5 million copies in its first two weeks, yet persistent performance issues and controversial remarks from CEO Randy Pitchford have tainted its image among some fans. Amid all the ups and downs, devs are actively working on tweaking the game to offer a better gameplay experience.

Gearbox unveiled the latest Borderlands 4 update on October 2, outlining several adjustments to the damage and critical hit chances of various action skills and passives. As devs had previously confirmed, Borderlands 4 is focusing on class buffs first rather than starting off with nerfs for equipment and skills some players might find overpowered. Amon, in particular, gets a host of damage increases and other boosts in the patch, with Vex and Rafa also getting multiple buffs. Harlowe stands out for receiving only two changes, both of which increase the damage of the Zero-Point skill. According to the official announcement, these adjustments should create greater build diversity, ensuring a wider range of builds remain viable long into the campaign.

While Vault Hunter skill tweaks make up most of the update, it includes some minor changes in other areas, too. Notably, it introduces a small fix to prevent performance degradation on some PCs in light of Borderlands 4‘s ongoing PC issues that have populated headlines lately. As with every week, the Weekly Big Encore Boss, Weekly Wildcard Mission, and Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine have all changed in the latest update, too. There is plenty of future content for players to look forward to as well. As detailed in the Borderlands 4 post-launch roadmap, there will be a Halloween event, introducing new legendary weapons and cosmetics, as well as several paid DLC packs and free updates over the next few months and into 2026. The first DLC Vault Hunter, C4SH, was also recently unveiled and is slated to arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2026.

Weekly Big Encore Boss has switched to a tougher variant of a different existing boss with an even more rewarding loot pool for those that take it on.
The Weekly Wildcard Mission has changed. These missions feature a guaranteed Legendary drop that you can repeatedly earn to get your ideal roll.
Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine has moved to another location and changed its offerings. Remember, while the location is the same, your vending machine items are different from other players, so ask around to see if someone has the item you’re looking for!
